Rensselaer County resident Perry Ransford, of Troy, was arrested Monday, July 3, following a joint investigation by the Troy Police Department and other agencies that spanned several months.
According to investigators, Ransford raped a 13-year-old girl who visited his Troy apartment, located on 6th Avenue, in February 2023.
The two had no prior relationship with one another, police said.
“We want to recognize the courage of the victim survivor of this incident, reporting the unthinkable acts that occurred and allowing agencies to serve,” Troy Police Assistant Chief Steven Barker said in a statement.
Ransford was charged with:
- First-degree rape
- Second-degree rape
- First-degree sexual abuse
- Aggravated sexual abuse
- Endangering the welfare of a child
